Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Rosary celebrates Feast Day
The Catholic Faithful in Doha, Qatar celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary on 7th October 2016. In observance of the Church’s declaration of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, the Door of Mercy at the Main Church was opened to the parishioners just before the start of the feast celebration. The Feast Day started with the Living Rosary animated by the Altar Servers at 2:30 PM in the Main Church. It was followed by a solemn concelebrated high mass presided by Rev. Fr. Paul Koenig, OFM, Cap, the Custos of the Order of the Capuchin Friars in Arabia. The Feast Mass was highlighted by the solemn enthronement of the image of the Our Lady of the Rosary while the Ave Maria Hymn was prayerfully sang by the choir. Rev. Fr. Hugh Gillespie, the guest preacher for the Feast Celebration was overwhelmed by the parishioners attendance in the main church which was full to capacity, with more people standing on the church’s aisles. Fr. Hugh was very much inspired that he alluded the church’s situation to Mary’s condition when she carried the Lord Jesus who is God Himself in her womb. Fr. Hugh expressed that Mary’s ancient name i.e. “more spacious than heaven, to contain the greatness of God”, is well manifested in the celebration, wherein the church’s limited space is able to accommodate the large number of parishioners present in the celebration. Fr. Hugh continued his homily by assuring the faithful that the Blessed Mother is always with us in our daily endeavour in reaching out to her Son Jesus. The Holy Mass lasted for almost two and a half hours, which was described by everyone present as very solemn, inspiring and heavenly experience.
A well organized cultural program and food fiesta followed right after the Eucharistic Celebration at the parish grounds. The multi cultural Catholic Church of Qatar was once again filled with festive celebrations of cultural dances, songs and food. It was participated in by the various communities, languages and rites in the parish. The very lively emcees added life to the celebration with their natural talent of hosting a celebration. The fiesta lasted until 10:00PM.
A week earlier, the preparation for the Feast Day of the Our Lady of the Rosary started on 28th September 2016 with the beginning of the daily Novena Masses presided by the guest preacher Rev. Fr. Hugh Gillespie, a daily recitation of the rosary and the novena prayers at the grotto was also done just before the Holy Mass. The daily novena masses was an occasion much awaited daily by the faithful because of the very inspiring homily of Rev. Fr. Hugh about the Blessed Mother. A block rosary organized by the Franciscan Youth and the Legion of Mary, was held on 30th September 2016 at the Seraphic Hall from 6:30 AM to 7:00PM, participated in by the different communities of the parish as part of the feast preparation. On the last day of the daily Novena which was on 6th October 2016, a candle light procession of the Image of Our Lady of the Rosary which was beautifully decorated with colorful flowers was carried around the parish grounds, it was concluded by an exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and a Benediction.
